What is the EMT Exam? +
It is a certification exam conducted by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) to validate your skills and knowledge for becoming a certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). The exam is divided into 2 parts: Cognitive and Psychomotor Exam.
Who can take the EMT Exam? +
The state EMS regulatory agency and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) has a specific set of requirements in terms of age, education, physical fitness, background check, and drug screening. Those who meet these requirements can take this exam.
What is the validity of the EMT certification? +
The EMT certification initial course is valid for 2 years from the date of completion. To maintain its validity you will have to complete a certain number of continuing education hours and retake the exam.
What is the minimum score required to pass the EMT cognitive exam? +
The passing score is determined by a complex scoring system that is judged on the basis of the difficulty of the questions and the overall performance of all test-takers. The NREMT certification application fee is $104.
What is the difference between the cognitive and psychomotor exam? +
It is imperative to pass both the cognitive and psychomotor exams to obtain an EMT certification. The cognitive exam validates your book knowledge, while the psychomotor exam validates your ability to apply that knowledge in practical situations. The format of the cognitive exam is computer-adaptive test (CAT) with multiple-choice questions whereas psychomotor is a hands-on test in standard patient scenarios.
